Advisingadvising

Thank you for your interest in Florida Community College and the Cecil Center. We are pleased to serve you. Our advisor is here to advise and assist you with enrollment processes. Our “one-stop” Student Commons offers you the following services:

  • Application Assistance
  • Career Direction and Counseling
  • Placement Testing
  • Financial Aid
  • First Time in College Orientation and Advising
  • Program of Study (POS) Advising
  • Registration Assistance

If you are currently a Cecil student, please visit us for continued assistance. If you are thinking about enrolling in college for the first time, our staff are happy to help you with the process. To help make the process a bit easier, below are the required steps to get you started:

1. Complete an application. This can be done two ways:

    • Paper application OR
    • Online at www.fccj.edu. Click “Apply Now” on the FCCJ homepage and follow the instructions.

Please Note:

  • A $15.00 application fee is required at the time students pay their tuition fees.
  • If you are claiming Florida residency status, you must provide two forms of proof of residency and will need to determine if you are “independent”(on your own and paying your expenses) or “dependent” (you are claimed as a “dependent by your parents for tax purposes).

2. Apply for Financial Aid - Do Not Wait! Financial Aid takes a minimum of 30 – 45 days to process. You can apply online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Tax forms and W-2s will be needed to complete this application process.

3. Complete placement testing

  • College credit students must take the College Placement Test (CPT)
  • Workforce certificate and other non-credit students are usually required to take the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE)
  • To test at the Cecil Center, please call 904.779.4200 or 904.779.4115 for more information on test dates and times.

4. Complete new student orientation

  • This is to help students become better acquainted with College processes and procedures.
  • Can be completed online or in person.

5. First term advising

  • Understand your placement test scores
  • Learn what classes to take
  • Become familiar with registration processes
  • Required before registration.

6. Register for classes

  • Students register for classes online using the College’s Artemis system, which can be accessed from the FCCJ homepage and clicking on “Student Logon” or “Register Online”.
