Edythe Abdullah is the president of Downtown Campus. During her twenty years of service to Florida State College, Dr. Abdullah has served as the associate vice president of workforce development and adult education, an adjunct instructor in continuing education, an adviser in college admissions and in various administrative roles in instruction.

Dr. Abdullah also serves in numerous local and state leadership roles. She was instrumental in developing the standards for implementing performance based funding legislation for the community college system. Additionally, she recently chaired the citywide group of citizen leaders that published a study on adult literacy and its impact on economic development. Recently inducted into the Florida’s Adult and Community Educators Hall of Fame, Dr. Abdullah was recognized for her statewide leadership and support of adult education and workforce development.

Linda Shannon is the executive dean of the downtown campus. She came to Florida State College in 2006 and has a broad range of administrative experience in higher education at both the state and institutional levels. Her background includes campus administration, instructional programming, budgeting and finance, policy development and implementation, and grant and contract negotiation and administration.

Ms. Shannon works closely with the campus president and the other members of the leadership team on matters related to the day-to-day operation of the downtown campus and on special projects and initiatives.

Sandra Beck is the dean of workforce development. She came to Florida State College in 1997.

As dean, Sandra supervises the departments of automotive, construction trades, welding, business, computer, office administration, engineering, manufacturing and network engineering.

Dean of Liberal Arts and Sciences

Dr. Birmingham supervises the Liberal Arts and Sciences Division. This division includes the departments of Liberal Arts & Sciences, Education, the Polytechnic Academy, the Learning Center and the Library. Liberal Arts programs include the disciplines of English as a Second Language, English/Speech/Journalism, Literature, Humanities, Mathematics, Natural Sciences, Social/Behavioral Sciences, Education and Music/Arts. She also supervises the college prep programs for English, Reading and Math. Workforce A. S. degree programs include Biotechnology, Childcare, and Early Childhood.

Dean Birmingham has resource development, grants management and program design/implementation responsibilities. Recent new projects are the Great Neighborhoods Project with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Project Renaissance Mentor Program, Florida Biotech Consortium, English Language Institute, Continuing Education courses, New Americans Program, and National Science Foundation grant proposals.

Dr. Birmingham has taught at St. Johns River Community College, Santa Fe Community College, the University of Florida and Florida State College in the areas of education and business.

Gary Krupa is the director of the Advanced Technology Center (ATC). He came to Florida State College in 2005 and has experience in a variety of educational venues.

As director, Gary oversees the operation of the ATC and supervises the Continuing Education (CWE) staff. He is directly responsible for managing business partnerships including the Anheuser-Busch training and Jacksonville Lean Consortiums.

Lynn Mobley is the Downtown Campus director of administrative services. She has been with the College for five years and has over 28 years of administrative experience. Under Ms. Mobley’s direction, the administrative employees of the campus have completed a number of initiatives to improve Downtown Campus including renovation projects, equipment purchases, process changes and customer service surveys and interaction.

In addition, Ms. Mobley leads a team that is responsible for many campus processes including: computer support; facilities; business office, and security with liaison responsibilities for the cafeteria, child care and bookstore.

Ms. Mobley also leads a team of 76 full-time staff and several part-time staff members that handle some of the following everyday issues: janitorial services, maintenance of buildings and grounds, room setups, computer technical support, security and student payments.

Sandra Willis is the Downtown Campus dean of student success. She received her associate in arts degree with high honors from Florida State College. Dean Willis continued her education at the University of North Florida receiving a bachelor of arts (cum laude) and a master’s degree in public administration.

As dean, Sandra supervises the departments of assessment and certification, the career development center, CASS, counseling/advising, enrollment services (which includes: records, registration, financial Aid, scholarships and veteran services), ILAB, membership card, student activities, student employment and students with disabilities.
