Learning Center
Computer Resources and Lab
Welcome to the Kent Learning Center’s computer lab. You must be a currently enrolled Florida State College at Jacksonville student with Florida State College at Jacksonville photo identification (ID) and/or a membership card. You will be responsible for saving your own work often as you work at the computer. All data is deleted when computers are rebooted. You can use your personal flash, USB devices or as an attachment to your own e-mail. If you have any difficulty in saving your work, in printing, or general computer usage, one of our computer tutors will be happy to assist you. Look for a tutor at the entrance help desk, a person wearing a name badge or near a "Computer Help Here" sign.
We do not provide head/ear phones. The campus bookstore or any Dollar Store sells inexpensive devices. The computer lab is a study area and all audio must be quietly played using your own headpnoes.
Downloading non-academic files, gaming, and non-academic chat on Learning Commons computers is prohibited.
We do not offer CD/DVD burning. All copyright laws must be observed.
The use of the Learning Center computer lab is a privilege that can be retained by remembering the following:
- Computers are for educational purposes only and all features including printing may only be used for college related materials.
- Altering the settings of the computer is prohibited.
- Snacks and covered drinks are allowed in the computer and tutoring areas.
- Phones should be in quiet mode; and please take all calls outside the Learning Center.
- Children are not allowed in the computer lab, so please remember to arrange for child care.
- Computer use in the open computer lab is electronically monitored.
Be a savvy student; do not lose your lab privileges.
- If you do not often save your work, you may lose it. Example: power outages happen.
All of the computers have Microsoft Office XP suite of programs and access to a variety of computer tutorials in math, english, science and reading.
My Skills Tutor and some other programs can be accesed if your faculty member has enrolled you into the program.
In addition, software packages for most of the computer programming and design classes, if they are taught at Kent Campus, are loaded on specific groups of computers, as is multimedia classes’ software. If you have any trouble accessing what you need, just ask one of the Computer Tutors.
Anyone violating policies or disrupting the environment will be asked to leave the building and may be referred for Security response and / or disciplinary sanctions.
