Mike Stroud
Mike comes from Columbia, SC. He has been coaching for 21 years and is entering his ninth year as head coach for the women’s tennis program at Florida Community College. Producing an eight–year record of 121 wins and 51 losses and seven top 10 finishes plus numerous trips to Nationals, Mike feels that recruiting, discipline, hard work and total commitment by the players are the keys to success. The players win the games.
The 2004 trip to Nationals yielded a final rank of #4 and in 2008 the team finished at #8. The 2008 team qualified for a return trip to the National Tournament in Arizona by way of finishing in second place at the State Tournament. We had a fine National Tournament where we finished #8 out of 75 teams in the nation, so we were able to move up three notches in the final rankings for this past season. We’ve recruited strongly for the 2008–09 season and we’ve got to get better. What appears to be another star–studded recruiting class for the 2008–09 season shows a lot of promise.
At Florida Community College we believe in producing a total person not just a player. We monitor grades closely, and we see that they are involved in government and community projects both on and off campus. We try to nurture their development and see that they train well and hard. We want them to move on to a senior university and be able to say that Florida Community College helped them to make that move successfully. We want to be proud of them and them to be proud of us. Their road may be long and difficult; it is our duty to have them ready.
