Bethel Baptist Institutional Church Summer Intervention program draws to a close with student recognition ceremony July 24
More than 100 students participated in the Bethel Baptist Institutional Church summer school for six weeks, June 16–July 25. Now the students have an opportunity for their accomplishments to be recognized in a ceremony at the church’s Main Sanctuary at 10 a.m. on July 24.
In previous years enrollment had been as high as 600 when Duval County Public did not offer a summer program. This summer, programs were available at a number of schools across the county and Bethel Baptist’s still attracted 108 students. The school’s director, Mrs. Estelle McKissick, estimates the pass rate to be above 90 percent.
In addition to the students, the summer program provided an opportunity for students from Florida Community College’s Teach First Coast program and education majors from University of North Florida. The teachers–in–training were able to meet part of their classroom observation requirements.
Officials from the Bethel Baptist Institutional Church, Duval County Public Schools and Florida Community College will address the students who are graduating or completed the program.
