
Florida Community College students to celebrate Constitution Day 2008
Students and faculty at Florida Community College will mark Constitution Day (which falls on Sept. 17) with classroom and assembly events designed to inform and entertain students while celebrating our nation’s Constitution during the week.
To recognize Constitution Day, History Professor Steve Piscitelli will lead an interactive lecture “Does Your Vote Count? Understanding the Electoral College.” The program will be presented twice to strengthen students’ knowledge of the basic tenets of the U.S. Constitution with dialog and visuals. Free and open to the public, Sept. 15 at 10 a.m. and Sept. 16 at 6 p.m.; both presentations in Downtown Campus, Bldg. A, Room 1068.
is hosting Constitution Day activities Sept. 18. Students from Florida Coastal School of Law will offer presentations on Constitutional Amendments at 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. in the Academy. There will also be continuing events throughout the day including a “Banned Book” display providing insight into what some people read that others disapprove of; Constitution Trivia PowerPoint presentation; voter registration; a copy of the Constitution that viewers can sign; free pocket editions of the Constitution; and “patriotic” themed ice cream sundaes will be sold with proceeds going to United Communities Campaign.
will host a discussion “Article II and the Electoral College” led by professors Marcella Washington, Joann Carpenter, Benjamin Fitzpatrick and Wesley Moody. Representatives from the McCain and Obama presidential campaigns have been invited to participate, Sept. 17 in the Wilson Center Lakeside Room, 12:15-1:15 p.m.
