“Home Maintenance” series at Florida Community College starts saving money for homeowners June 3
Florida Community College is offering a four-part series of practical courses for homeowners and contractors who want to learn maintenance basics to help them plan and complete projects, be prepared for certain emergencies and save money by doing it themselves. The series includes courses in plumbing, drywall and ceiling repair, bathroom and kitchen tile installation and a course in tools and their uses. Students may take individual courses if they prefer. Tuition for each course is $102 (plus a $15 lifetime membership fee for students who have never enrolled in FCCJ courses before). Please note that GED/high-school diploma are not required for enrollment in these courses. Course details are as follow:
Plumbing for Beginners: learn basic skills and special skills to run pipe, install fixtures and make common household plumbing repairs. Meets June 3 and June 5 from 5:30–9:30 p.m.
Repairing Drywall and Ceilings: hands-on activities teach how to make light repairs to drywall, paneled walls and ceilings, how to hang heavy objects on various types of walls and the use of drywall tools and tape. Meets June 10 and June 12 from 5:30–9:30 p.m.
Bathroom and Kitchen Tile Installation: learn about materials, tools and methods, minimizing installation problems, working with materials, finishing and repairs. Meets June 9 and June 11 from 5:30–9:30 p.m.
Tools and Their Uses: learn the proper use of hand and power tools including safety and inspection, identify which tools to use for which repairs, how to clean and store tools. Meets July 8 and July 10 from 5:30–9:30 p.m.
