Fifth Annual Patient Safety Conference at FCCJ South Campus June 5-6

Building a Culture of Patient Safety … Through an Interdisciplinary Approach

The Florida Patient Safety Corporation and Florida Community College at Jacksonville Health Programs are partnering this year to sponsor the Fifth Annual Excellence in Patient Safety Conference on June 5-6 at the Nathan H. Wilson Center, FCCJ South Campus, 11901 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville.

The Patient Safety Conference is recommended for all healthcare practitioners, educators and students, including physicians, nurses, pharmacists, various technicians and therapists in all specialties. Early registration (postmarked by May 16) is $125; regular registration (after May 16) is $150. Registration forms and information are available online or by calling 904.766.6524. Confirmation will be mailed after completed registration form and payment are received.

Varying levels of sponsorship begin at $1,000 and exhibitor tables are available at $500. Sponsorships include admission for at least four conference attendees, recognition in the program and during the conference.

Featured speakers and their topics include the following:

  • David Musson, M.D., Ph.D.; Assistant Professor Dept. of Anesthesia, Director of Center for Clinical Simulation, Center for Clinical Excellence McMaster University, Ontario, Canada. Topic: Creating Effective Teams through Simulation and Training.
  • Diane C. Frndak, Ph.D.; Vice President of Organizational Excellence, West Penn Allegheny Health System. Topic: Let's Get Real.
  • Rollin (Terry) Fairbanks, M.D., M.S., F.A.C.E.P.; Dept. of Emergency Medicine, University of Rochester Medical Center, NY. Topic: Patient Safety Insights from Human Factors Engineering.
  • Patricia Adamski, R.N., M.S., M.B.A.; Director of Standards Interpretation Group, Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. Topic: Creating a Culture of Patient Safety and the National Safety Goals for 2008.
  • Patricia Marck, R.N., Ph.D.; Assistant Professor Nursing, University of Alberta, Alberta, Canada. Topic: Through Practitioners’ Eyes: Using Photographic Research Methods to Recreate Safe Places with an Ecological Lens.
  • Shawna Perry, M.D.; Dept. of Emergency Medicine, University of Florida & Shands, Jacksonville, FL. Topic: Case Studies in Organizational Culture and Patient Safety.

  • Robert Wears, M.D.; Scientific Director, Florida Patient Safety Corporation. Panel Discussion Facilitator.

This program is approved for a total of 10 Continuing Education units (CEU) for the full one-and-one-half-day conference. Approval is for all nurses through the Florida Board of Nursing and through the professional board of regulation for all other disciplines (provider number 50-704). Two hours meet the biennial CE requirements for Prevention of Medical Error.
