Initiative Proposal Guidelines

Who is eligible to apply?

Full-time faculty, staff, students, employee groups, and College organizations are encouraged to submit strategic initiative funding proposals to the Council.

What is appropriate for an application?

In order to be considered for funding, a proposal should:

  • Relate directly and significantly to one or more Collegewide goals
  • Involve collaboration with other staff or campuses, if appropriate
  • Represent an innovative approach or solution
  • Involve an opportunity for significant return on investment
  • Have a signed Certification of Proposal (PDF document) from a member of the President's Cabinet
  • Contain expenditures beyond a routine budget item
  • Have a budget that does not exceed $150,000

What is not appropriate for an application?

Applicants are discouraged from submitting proposals that require:

  • Funds for multiple computer workstations and/or furniture
  • Ongoing annual funding, including staff salary support
  • Facilities renovation

Awardees may not use funds to augment or replace items currently funded out of the general College budget.

What do I have to do to apply?

  • Discuss your intended project with your campus president or Cabinet member
  • Download and complete the application form. Applicants must use the form provided. The completed form may not exceed five (5) pages. Attachments are not allowed.
  • For your record, save a copy of the completed form.
  • Email the completed form to Ida Brown according to submission deadlines
  • Review the committee process guide (PDF document)
  • Obtain the Cabinet Member's Certification of Proposal (PDF document) before submitting the application

(Applicants who submit the application form online should present a signed Certification of Proposal from their Cabinet member when they give an oral presentation about the proposal at the Strategic Planning Council meeting.)

What's next?

  • Plan to attend the next Strategic Planning Council meeting
  • Prepare a five-minute presentation of your proposal, and be ready to answer questions from the committee; the presentation will be timed and you will be asked to stop after five minutes

What if I am approved?

  • You will receive a notice by e-mail, with a copy to the Cabinet member, that your proposal has been approved for funding
  • The approval notification will state the amount designated for the project (maximum $150,000)
  • The notice will inform you about what to do after your proposal has been approved:
    • How to access the approved funds
    • Your approved timeline for completion (maximum two years)
    • The deadline for your final report (required of all funded projects)
  • Be sure to review the requirements under the final report in order to have the necessary information at hand by the conclusion of your project

What if I am not approved?

  • You will receive a notice by e-mail, with a copy to the campus president, explaining why your application was not approved for funding.
