Teacher Recertification Courses at Florida Community College
Are you a teacher seeking recertification? Now, you can take recertification courses the easy way —
at Florida Community College. The courses are offered at five of our conveniently located campuses. Major course categories
include English, math, social studies, science and education technology.
Teachers need to take six college credits for renewal or reinstatement. Consider taking courses that
improve your teaching methods or content knowledge. Here are the course content areas recommended for the most common
certification subject areas:
Social Sciences (Middle or High) Teachers: United States history,
western civilization, European, Asian, African, Latin American, or Middle Eastern history, economics, United States
government, or geography.
Math (Middle or High) Teachers: Calculus, geometry, probability,
statistics, and abstract or linear algebra
English (Middle or High) Teachers: English
composition and grammar beyond freshman English, speech, oral interpretation, or literature
Science (Middle or High) Teachers: Biology; Chemistry; Earth-Space
Science; Physics. See the FLDOE rules for Specialization
Requirements for Certification in Separate Areas of Science.
Elementary School Teachers: Music, Art, Physical Education, health and
all core content: science, math, social sciences, English
All Certification Areas: All Education department coursework (course
prefixes EDF, EDG, EEX, EME) can be used for all certification areas.
You can sometimes accomplish two tasks by taking a course that counts towards recertification and something else that is
important to your professional development.
